"My daughter has developed strong technique and the students are taught discipline and structure while instilling a love of dance through regular classes, exam preparation and competition for those who choose."
Welcome to Evolutions School of Dance
Our ESD competitive Performance Division (PD) team is a rewarding team experience for those dedicated to a higher level of training intensity and performance quality. To provide optimal instruction, students who would like to pursue the competitive PD team are assessed by our faculty and placed into the division and classes that are best matched to nurture them to grow in their talent and potential.
ESD holds a high expectation that all dancers who participate in Performance Division commit to practicing at home on a regular basis. There is a high amount of parent involvement required, which means this is full family commitment for the entire season.PD team members are expected to uphold their commitment by attending their scheduled classes consistently, memorize and retain choreography and practice at home. The dancers commit to the team for a whole season, participate in a required amount of competitions in the Calgary & surrounding area in April & May, perform at the year end showcase and will have opportunities for additional performance experiences throughout the year.
The team is divided into 2 divisions: Apprentice Division & Performance Division, which allows for more of our dancers to be involved. All Performance Division Team members must meet the prerequisites for their age division and level.

Performance Division Team Requirements:
(Junior level and up)
Required Intensive Technique classes at each specific level are mandatory. ESD maintains a high standard in all our programming, but specifically for those dancers who wish to be a part of the Performance Division Team. This program is not for everyone, which is why we offer a large variety of Foundational programs as well.
Invitations to join the PD team are sent out in April/May of the previous season, and dancers are expected to commit to our Summer Intensive as well.
Summer Intensive & Auditions
The PD Summer Intensive and Auditions allow us to see all new and returning team members dance together, so we can evaluate technique levels. We will make our decisions based on what is best for your dancer, as well as what is best for the team as a whole.
All students Pre-Intermediate and up who wish to be a part of our PD team for the upcoming year must attend our MANDATORY Summer Intensive & Auditions. This incredible opportunity to train with our faculty and guest faculty allows students to get a head start on their full year training, increase stamina, strength and endurance, as well as team building for the upcoming dance season.
(Our Summer Intensive is HIGHLY recommended for ages 5+ even if they are not planning to be members of our PD team as it is a great opportunity to work with new faculty & learn different styles of dance).

New for 2022/2023: The Festival Team
The ESD Festival Team allows dancers additional performance experience, while continuing to train in their desired genre of dance. Only select classes at the Beginner and Junior levels will be offered the opportunity to participate in one festival based local competition in April or May, which will be determined by the Studio Directors in October. Choreography will occur during regularly scheduled technique classes, allowing dancers to train in foundational technique, while gaining additional performance experience.
The goal of this program is create a bridge between our Foundational and Intensive programs, and the Performance Division. Performance is a vital component of dance, one that requires practice & experience, leading to increased confidence, artistry and love for dance.
* Dancers will also perform at the Performance Division Showcase in March, and the Year End Showcase in June.
** Additional costs include: festival entry fees for one local competition (TBD) & costume fees
*** all - or the majority of - the dancers must be in agreement to attend a festival in order for a class to be designated a "Festival Team" class.
